Lyrics
Like the voice of free America I am pleading now with you Let's all shout the word of freedom throughout Europe and Asia too There is no place like our nation, it is led with God's own hand Let's defeat the oppressor and bring peace to every land
[chorus] Oh, the voice of free America, it beams throughout the world Tells the honest way of life to man and woman, boy and girl Let's thank God for all our freedom, He's been good to you and me Let's unite the willing nations and keep the whole world free
In Iran they're having troubles o'er the oil, so we do hear Between Britian and Iran, the Russians interfere On the other side, Korea, is a sea of blood today Send the voice of free America, and get on your knees and pray
[chorus] Oh, the voice of free America, it beams throughout the world Tells the honest way of life to man and woman, boy and girl Let's thank God for all our freedom, He's been good to you and me Let's unite the willing nations and keep the whole world free
Sometimes I wonder what will happen if we on at this pace I feel sure there's just one answer, there will be no human race The atom bomb will cause destruction, we can stop this with our prayers Send the voice of free America to nations everywhere
[chorus] Oh, the voice of free America, it beams throughout the world Tells the honest way of life to man and woman, boy and girl Let's thank God for all our freedom, He's been good to you and me Let's unite the willing nations and keep the whole world free
Analysis
The song The Voice of Free America, by Jimmy Osborne reflects on the Korean War. Osborne sings very patriotically about the US involvement in Korea and about the importance of freedom and how it should be spread. To support that statement Osborne sings lines such as, “There is no place like our nation, it is led with God's own hand, let's defeat the oppressor and bring peace to every land,” and “Let's unite the willing nations and keep the whole world free,”. Lines like that represent the song as very pro-war. Other lines that represent the pro-war aspect, “Let's all shout the word of freedom throughout Europe and Asia too,”. This song is in support of Truman’s foreign policy because the song is trying to tell the American nation, like Truman, that we should stop any Communist powers from spreading and spread the voice of freedom instead. This song is saying if we don’t stop the communist movement that the atomic bomb shall be a problem and “…there's just one answer, there will be no human race,”. I do agree that communism should be stopped from spreading around the world because it usual turns into a dictatorship which leads to a chaotic and unmerciful country usually.
